Craft: Easter boxes

We’ve married both spring and Easter icons for this delightful box craft, perfect for concealing dyed eggs and chocolate, or as a gift in and of itself for toddlers.

Spring is such a wonderful time for craft inspiration. The grey skies and dirty snow have been replaced with budding flowers and bursts of colour, while the springtime holiday of Easter delights both kids and kids at heart with bunnies, chicks, and chocolate.

We’ve married both spring and Easter icons for this delightful box craft, perfect for concealing dyed eggs and chocolate, or as a gift in and of itself for toddlers.

The first template we created is an alphabet block, with pastel colours and the letters to spell Easter on each of the six sides that can be printed as is, or can be altered by deleting the letters or changing the colours, if desired. We’ve also included a plain box template that can be printed out and handed to children to decorate with stickers, glitter and more.

Directions:

TO PRINT either template as is, click on the link for the alphabet block or the plain box, save it to our desktop, open it in Word, set your printer to best or high, and insert cardstock or matte photo paper. (You may want to do a test print on plain paper first to make sure the colours and size work – the templates are both sized for 8.5- x 11-inch paper. NOTE:  The alphabet block is a .docx file for Word 2007 or later. The black and white box is a .doc file that can be used with any version of Word).

TO CHANGE COLOURS of the alphabet block before printing, click on the link for the alphabet block, click on a box > Drawing tools > Format > Shape fill.

TO DECORATE the plain box, lay some newspaper on a work surface and present kids with assorted spring-colour or Easter-themed stickers, stamps, glitter glue, markers, sequins, etc.

TO CONSTRUCT THE BOX, cut along the outside lines, score inner lines, fold into box shape and glue or tape the flaps to the inside of the corresponding sides.

TO FILL THE BOX for an Easter hunt, line the bottom and sides with complementary-coloured shredded paper or tissue paper to hold a dyed egg in place, line with wax or parchment paper and fill with Hershey’s Eggies or Easter-themed Hershey’s Kisses, or pack up a Play-Doh spring egg.
