Craft: make a baby blanket

Produced by Heather Camlot, MySweetBaby  editor.

A chill in the air? No need to despair. Follow our simple directions for a no-sew blanket that will keep your little one warm all winter long. And if you get a few compliments as you and baby stroll along, we say all the better.

Materials

  • Two pieces of fleece (4 feet x 5 feet for a crib-size blanket or 3 ½ feet by 4 ½ feet for a stroller-size blanket) in complimentary colours and/or patterns
  • Sharp scissors
  • Long, heavy ruler

 Directions

Step 1 Lay one piece of fleece good-side down flat on the floor.

Step 2 Line up and lay the second piece of fleece good-side up on top of the first piece.

Step 3 Cut out a six-inch square through both pieces of fleece at each corner.

Step 4 Lay the ruler six inches above one edge of the fleece.

Step 5 Cut 6-inch-long fringe (from the edge to the ruler) every inch through both pieces of fleece.

Step 6 Pick up one pair of fringe and knot together so the knot lies flat.

Step 7 Repeat Steps 4 to 6 until all sides are done.

Step 8 Trim each knotted fringe by a couple of inches.
